You probably heard about Donald Trump’s military parade and all the authoritarian sheeple he had there cheering him on. Jacob Hornberger has a very good post on that. Among other things, he writes:
Americans today praise the signers of the Declaration as patriots. But I will guarantee you that their government didn’t consider them to be patriots. They considered them to be terrorists, criminals, and traitors. If the government had won, the rebels would have been long forgotten,
What about the British troops? Not surprisingly, the government exhorted the British colonists to support the troops. They pointed out what Trump pointed out yesterday — that it is the duty of the citizenry to support the troops because they are protecting the nation and the freedom of the citizenry.
And in fact, it has been estimated that about one-third of the British colonists did end up supporting the troops during the Revolution. They sided with their government and cheered the troops as they tried to put down the rebellion by killing the British citizens who were doing the rebelling.
The British revolutionaries, on the other hand, absolutely refused to support the troops. On the contrary, they chose to shoot and kill the troops. They wanted the troops to surrender and return to England so that they could establish their own nation, one that would not be a military nation like the one against which they were rebelling.
So, who were the real patriots — the ones who supported the troops or the ones who shot and killed the troops? In the movie The Patriot, which starred Mel Gibson, the answer was that the patriots were those who are willing to stand up to the wrongdoing of their own government, which sometimes means standing up to the government’s troops.
And I also have some thoughts on this.
In my view, it is a shame that so many people in America are bamboozled and duped by propaganda for decades now to “support the troops” regardless of all the criminal wars of aggression and violence wrought by U.S. military overseas, and for no good reason. The authoritarian nationalists continue to defend the murderous rampages of the U.S. military, such as in their recent acquittal of murder of the Navy SEAL Gallagher.
And the people on ditto-head radio are making me pull my hair out with their extreme cognitive dissonance. They are just like the leftists they constantly criticize: They LOVE government authority! Especially men in uniforms, like military and police. I think they literally get aroused by all this.
In my view, given what Trump-loving authoritarian neanderthal sheeple they are, if Rush Limbaugh, Dennis Prager, Sebastian Dorka and Sean Hannity were around at the time of the American Revolution, they would have reported on the rebels and turned them in to the “authorities.” Why? Because these loonies are nationalists. The people who were nationalists back then were the loyalists who were loyal to the regime.
And ignorant nationalists at that. They are also part of the Lincoln Cult, as Thomas DiLorenzo would put it. Just the other day I heard Sebastian Dorka say that 600,000 people died in the “Civil War” in the name of “freeing the slaves,” when that is just not true. They died in the name of restoring the centralized power apparatus in Washington. They died in the name of punishing secessionists who wanted to leave a union. They died in the name of being forcibly brought back into a union involuntarily that they wanted no part of.
And they died in the name of enshrining the imperial U.S. President Lincoln and all subsequent U.S. emperors. (Although JFK was beginning to break out of that mold, but the national security state’s assassination of Kennedy re-secured their authority over the people.)
In fact, James Bovard has an article now on the similarities between Lincoln and Trump. (Authoritarian sheeple love them both.)
And also, the conservatives and nationalists in Amerika should please shut up about Colin Kaepernick and his not liking a flag on a shoe that Nike was going to produce. “Aww, poor Colin Krappernick,” the ditto-heads whine, “he feels triggered by an early American flag…boo-hoo…”
Yet, these same nationalists are triggered if they see or hear about someone “desecrating” an American flag or engaged in flag-burning as a protest. Did you see Candace Owens’s tweet, belching out her anti-First Amendment tirade? “If I were President, the punishment for burning the U.S flag would be the renunciation of citizenship. No jail time, no fine— simply one year to liquidate your assets and get the hell out of our country.”
Talk about someone who does not understand why the First Amendment was written! And she responded to the Dear Leader, who tweeted the day before: “All in for Senator Steve Daines as he proposes an Amendment for a strong BAN on burning our American Flag. A no brainer!” (Talk about someone with a “no brainer.”)
So these are authoritarian nationalists and collectivists who worship a flag and who identify with a strong authoritarian State and its military. You can’t get much more un-American than that.
In May of 2016 I wrote my article on some of the then Libertarian Party candidates of President, with some references to some past candidates and how the LP has changed (for the worse) over the years. That article was at the time of the LP convention for the 2016 election. But now I want to write about some of the official candidates and some unofficial candidates for 2020.
In 2012 and 2016 the LP chose statist Gary Johnson the pothead to be the “Libertarian” Party Presidential nominee. Ugh. And in 2016 Bill Weld was the LP’s VP nominee. Among other naive or incoherent things, Johnson said that Barack Obama was a “good guy,” and that Hillary Clinton is a “a wonderful public servant.”
And I also wrote, “Besides being a corrupt sleazebag and a degenerate, Hillary is a real criminal. And not just from the Clinton Foundation racket and the email server criminality but a real war criminal as well, even going back to her days as first lady, aiding and abetting her criminal husband in his ethnic cleansing of Kosovo and his continuing bombing and sanctions against Iraq throughout the 1990s, as she urged and supported Bill Clinton to continue doing those horrible things.”
And on Weld, “And Bill Weld wants a ‘thousand-person FBI task force treating ISIS as a gigantic organized crime family’? No, the real libertarian answer to that is to abolish the FBI, because it is the government that should be treated as a ‘gigantic organized crime family’!”
So I wanted to see just who is now running to be the LP’s nominee for President this time, in 2020. As I wrote in my article in 2016 Darryl Perry was the only candidate at that time who had the right, actual libertarian views on the issues. Certainly not Johnson, John McAfee, or Austin Peterson.
For the 2020 declared and potential LP candidates there are so many names now on Politics1.com’s list, it’s really too much for me now. But this is only May of 2019 and it’s a whole year to go until the LP’s national Presidential convention.
Anyway, to begin, there’s Adam Kokesh, who has been in the military in Iraq and has a history of confrontations with police at protests or demonstrations. I wrote a little about his debate with Larken Rose, who said that an anarchist such as Kokesh running for President is legitimizing an illegitimate system of coercion and force.
There is one thing that bothers me. On Kokesh’s campaign website, in the photo of him he is giving a military salute. Are you kidding me? I know, there are a lot of military worshipers out there, who praise the military for their invading and bombing other countries and murdering millions of innocents. I’m not saying that Kokesh is endorsing that, but WHY is he giving a military salute?!!
On the home page, he writes, “My name is Adam Kokesh and I’m running for Not-President of the United States with the Libertarian Party on the platform of the peaceful, responsible dissolution of the entire federal government.” Okay, that’s good. (That’s similar to what Darryl Perry wrote in 2016, “that the United States government, as it exists today, should be abolished!”) Kokesh writes on the Platform page on how he would dismantle the U.S. government.
Now, I agree with that, because centralization of government is what takes the society to ruin. The more decentralized the society, the more freedom there will be, and the better able people are to vote with their feet.
Another candidate is Dan “Taxation Is Theft” Behrman, who writes on his campaign website, “Taxation Is Theft,” “Fire the IRS,” “End the Fed,” “Erase the Debt,” “It’s time to free healthcare…by simply giving back our freedom to choose” (Video with Dan “Taxation Is Theft” Behrman explaining that.)…”Pardon the Innocent,” and other libertarian statements. (And he wears a funny hat.)
On William Hurst‘s campaign website, his slogan is “E Pluribus Unum Possumus – Of Many We Can Be One!” Huh? What do you mean we can be one? But I don’t want to be a part of a whole collective of people I don’t know, and be “one.” I just want freedom.
Under “My Goals,” Hurst writes, “If our children are to have a future, we need to address climate change now.” Huh? How do we address climate change which has been a natural occurrence on Earth for hundreds of millions of years that human activity has had nothing to do with, despite what the junk science fraudsters have brainwashed millions of people to believe?
And, “All citizens should be afforded quality education and a basic degree.” Huh? So what are you saying, that the gubmint should be providing education? Who defines “quality education,” the NEA? Betsy DeVos? And what about those who don’t want a “basic degree”?
In this interview, Hurst was asked if he supports Medicare for All, and his response: “Yes, if it doesn’t lend a hand to furthered abuses of the current healthcare system, I am all for it. This is one of the generally non-libertarian stances that you referred to earlier. I argue that it should be. You can’t enjoy freedom of you’re dead and the for-profit style of medicine has become a means of oppression.” Apparently, Hurst hasn’t read these articles. The “for-profit style of medicine” was working in America, and it was providing the best quality health care for most people and it wasn’t too expensive. Until Medicare was shoved down our throats, and then the quality of medical care declined and the costs went up!
Back to Hurst’s website, he writes about immigration (with my comments in brackets): “If it remains necessary to halt the illegal traffic across our border, to aid the efforts of our border patrol [“Our border patrol”? You mean our government border patrol, the police state?], we have the technology available that will allow for a nearly invisible barrier. This barrier will allow our guards [What, government guards? the border gestapo, “Your papers, please?” No thanks!] to effectively see and handle any potential threat while maintaining the ability of wildlife to traverse our expansive borders.”
On Ben Leder‘s campaign website, he proposes a Civilian Defense Act: “The Civilian Defense Act shall Repeal and Replace all Federal Gun Control Laws to include but not limited to the National Firearms Act of 1934, the National Firearms Act of 1938, the Control Act of 1968, the Hughes Amendment of the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986, the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993, Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, and reaffirm the Second Amendment of the US Constitution by creating an Online Government Auction for US Military Surplus. All US Military Surplus shall be sold at auction to the highest bidder amongst the United States Civilian Market. The US Civilian Market shall have the first right of refusal on all US Military Surplus, and all US Military Surplus Exports shall be sold at action to the highest bidder only after failing to be liquidated to the Civilian Marketplace. Financing Options shall be made available to the US Civilian Market on US Military Surplus Equipment to include but not limited to Aircraft, Ships, Boats, in addition to Amphibious, Armored, Wheeled, and Tracked Vehicles.” Hmmm.
And a Felony Forgiveness Act. “The Felony Forgiveness Act shall retroactively expunge all convictions for offenses no longer deemed illegal, to include but not limited to Drug Offenses, Firearms Offenses, and Tax Offenses….” Good.
Kimberly Ruff has a campaign website with an already chosen running mate, John Phillips.
On immigration reform, Ruff concludes, “We therefore call for the abolition of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and would declare, when elected, a full pardon for all otherwise innocent people who are in the country without government permission. We oppose the false conflation of government welfare with ‘illegal’ immigration, as those claims are unsupported by empirical study, and irrelevant to matters of natural rights. We oppose border walls as antithetical to the principles of freedom and liberty.” Good.
However, on his Positions on National Issues page, Kimberly Ruff’s VP running mate John Phillips states: “Immigration reform. I am not a fully open borders with no restrictions person, though close. I am however for MUCH easier immigration, work permits, and border crossing. Once we correct our current welfare system I would be willing to look at making it even easier than I think we should now.” Work permits? You mean that people need to get a gubmint bureaucrat’s permission to work? “Correct our current welfare system”? I hope you mean “abolish” our current welfare system!
Now, I see on the Wikipedia page for the LP 2020 Presidential primaries that the Kimberly Ruff/John Phillips ticket has been endorsed by Darryl Perry, with a footnote link to this tweet. To me, that sure has a lot of weight, given how consistently libertarian and voluntaryist Darryl Perry is in his views.
On Taxation, Hornberger states: “Abolish the federal income tax and the IRS. People have the fundamental, God-given right to keep everything they earn and decide for themselves what to do with it — spend, save, donate, or invest. The right to keep and dispose of the fruits of one’s earnings is a necessary prerequisite to a free society.”
On Healthcare, Hornberger states: “There is but one solution to what Democrats and Republicans have done to destroy what was once the greatest health-care system in the world: a total separation of health care and the state, just as our ancestors separated church and state. That necessarily means the repeal, not the reform, of Medicare, Medicaid, occupational licensure, and healthcare and tax regulations, all of which are nothing more than a cancer on the body politic.”
In fact, just this week he has some proposals for Constitutional amendments on his regular blog at FFF, such as: “No law shall be enacted by either the federal or the state governments respecting the regulation of commerce or abridging the free exercise thereof.” And, “No law shall be enacted by either the federal or state governments regarding the establishment of education or abridging the free exercise thereof.” (Well, I am not sure whether the inclusion of “state governments” might violate the Tenth Amendment, but whatever.)
On his campaign website, Hornberger has this video, A Political Message to Americans:
And he has it in Spanish as well.
Hornberger doesn’t agree with Adam Kokesh and Darryl Perry (and me) that we need to abolish the federal government, at the very least. But Hornberger does believe that the U.S. government needs to have most of what it is today dismantled, its police state given a dishonorable discharge and so on. As Hornberger wrote n 2013, permanently lay off the parasitic sector. Yup.
But in my view, the U.S. needs to decentralize, just as the old Soviet Union did. This entire territory is just too damn big to be all one single country and a single “culture.” Murray Rothbard wrote about how best to decentralize, and Lew Rockwell also envisioned how he’d like to see that done.
But, as long as this is one single country and ruled over by a single regime in Washington, we should have someone there who will veto just about everything, pardon peaceful non-criminals who are being harassed by government tyrants, and make use of the power of the executive branch to dismantle as much as possible that criminal racket in Washington, and liberate the people!
While I’m not endorsing anyone here, if the LP were to have its nominating convention today, I would be shocked if they didn’t nominate Jacob Hornberger, given his years of experience in advancing the cause of liberty, and his qualifications.
Why are many of the people on the left of such an authoritarian mentality? They are so authoritarian in their worship of the federal government and its illicit powers and feared losing the power so much they disrupted the Brett Kavanaugh hearings, and engaged in so much obvious cheating during the recent mid-term elections. (Not that Republicans weren’t engaged in cheating or at least questionable behavior as well, such as in Georgia.)
During the Kavanaugh hearings, Sen. Cruella Harris began interrupting Chairman Grassfed as soon as he began the hearings, and it went downhill from there, especially with “Dr.” Ford who “Must Be Believed At All Times!” and Kavanaugh screaming how much he loves beer and telling us what a moron he is by keeping calendars going back to 1982. (Who does that?)
Meanwhile, informed people with a brain actually objected to Kavanaugh based on his terrible rulings rubber-stamping tyranny, and his being a corrupt bureaucrat. But no, the fanatics on the left are concerned about abortion. That’s what they care about. And “Free Health Care for ALL!”and all that.
The fanatics believe that the Supreme Court is the God of government, that those 9 robed bureaucrats have the absolute final say on our freedom (and our enslavement). So it’s so important that they have to interrupt hearings, harass senators who voted for Kavanaugh, and cheat in elections. What a life.
But, as Tom Woods points out in a recent article, especially in his quoting of James Madison, the federal judicial branch is the final decision-maker on constitutional conflicts only between the branches of the federal government (judicial, legislative and executive), but NOT the final decision-maker on conflicts between the federal government and the states.
As Woods has explained in the past, the states, after all, created the federal government, not the other way around. The people of the states are the “boss” of the feds, and the agents of the federal government are the states’ “employees.” Unfortunately, that has been turned around by authoritarians (especially reinforced by Lincoln) who believe that whatever the federal government says, goes. “You will report to us your earnings, where you work or whom you employ, we will take a portion of your wealth whether you like it or not, we will spy on you and know the personal details of your private life and you will not know what we are up to, we’ll just mark everything ‘classified,’ and so on…”
So that stuff that the bureaucrats in Washington have been doing, that fools like Brett Kavanaugh have been rubber-stamping out of loyalty to the Regime and its racket, is unconstitutional, illicit, and criminal. This is why the writers of the Bill of Rights included the Tenth Amendment, which reads, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.”
Which is not very well written, by the way. It should have explicitly stated that the people of the states shall nullify any federal government rule, law or order on them whose enforcement they conclude would be in violation of their liberty, persons or property. Otherwise, the Founders needlessly created a federal government and ratified a questionableConstitution, going against the very principles of their Declaration of Independence.
Thomas Jefferson and others endorsed that idea of nullification which many people on the left now ignorantly perceive as having to do with racism or “slavery,” even though some states engaged in nullification during the Civil War period when they nullified Fugitive Slave Laws (which Lincoln strongly endorsed and enforced, by the way).
As Woods wrote in an essay in his Liberty Classroom, “nullification was used against slavery, as when northern states did everything in their power to obstruct the enforcement of the fugitive-slave laws, with the Supreme Court of Wisconsin going so far as to declare the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 unconstitutional and void. In Ableman v. Booth (1859), the U.S. Supreme Court scolded it for doing so. In other words, modern anti-nullification jurisprudence has its roots in the Supreme Court’s declarations in support of the Fugitive Slave Act. Who’s defending slavery here?”
But as I wrote in this article, we are now slaves of the federal government.
Concocting a centralized, ruling federal government was a mistake made by the Revolutionaries. Besides the social fascists and authoritarians on the left, now we have a Donald Trump who claims that his job is “running the country,” which, as Richard Ebeling pointed out in this very informative new article, is a “claim to abrogate the liberty of each and every member of that society to have the freedom to run their own life as they peacefully and honestly see fit in voluntary and mutually agreed-upon association with their fellow human beings for their respective betterment as they define it.”
One of the latest examples of the absurdity of this centralized power apparatus in Washington is that the bureaucrats are going to bring criminal charges against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, because he provided the means for whistleblowers to expose the criminality of the federal bureaucrats and their goons. Whistleblowers such as Bradley Manning with the Iraq War Logs, the Afghanistan War Logs, the diplomatic cables leaks, the “Collateral Murder” video, and all the rest.
As I wrote above, the criminals of the regime classify whatever they can to avoid embarrassing disclosures, evade transparency, get away with murder, and punish whistleblowers. Bradley Manning, by the way, was viciously persecuted by Obama’s regime, not Bush, with 3 years of solitary confinement pre-trial and a kangaroo trial and sentencing. (Although I think the main reason the SJW-in-Chief Barack Obama then commuted Manning’s 35-year sentence was because Manning is a “transgender.” Those are the things Obama et al. really care about.)
You see, as many people have noted now in the Obama DOJ and FBI’s surveillance abuses and how the Obama administration was so bad with civil liberties and freedom of speech and his war on the Press, we now have Cruella Harris and Pocahontas and all their moonbat followers drooling to take the apparatus of power back so THEY can once again use the spying powers against enemies and enforce their beloved police state on the people.
In 1991, 15 states seceded from the Soviet Union. This was the greatest peaceful revolution in modern history. American political elites did not see it coming even though Soviet officials told them what was about to happen. Their minds were so controlled by the notion that a modern state is “one and indivisible” they could not imagine peaceful secession. That Soviet secession occurred peacefully had a ripple effect, and soon after a number of peaceful secessions occurred in Europe and more secession movements have arisen. The result is that secession is now thought of in Europe as a neutral act to be evaluated on its merits rather than as something necessarily bad as Lincoln classified it when he identified it with anarchy and a threat to government as such. Today even Americans are beginning to think of secession in a neutral way, despite Lincoln and the Pledge of Allegiance.
As I have been saying, the territory of this “America” country is just TOO BIG. It’s too big in population and in area from coast to coast and border to border. It’s too big to be all one single country and a single “culture,” whatever that means anymore. I know, the mystical nationalists might intellectually be able to recognize those problems with “America,” but emotionally? Nope. They can’t let go of what they’ve been indoctrinated with their entire lives, starting with their 7 or 8 hours per day sitting in a classroom, standing for the “Pledge,” and their intellectual curiosity and their questioning the authoritarianism of the day being stifled by their authoritarian teachers.
But there are those who aren’t too brainwashed in the cult of America worship, and perhaps those people can be reached with a dose of reality. I hope.
