Socialism vs. Freedom

Here is my latest article on Activist Post, Socialism vs. Freedom:

Bernie Sanders seems to be getting a lot of support from people who think they want “socialism” in America, especially the young people, many of whom know nothing about what socialism really is.

There is a lot of misinformation out there, including the assertion that Sweden and other Nordic countries are “socialist,” which they aren’t because of their protection of private property and the private ownership of the means of production. So, those countries are capitalist countries but with a large welfare state, just like the U.S.

But the truth is, actual socialism has a history of economic stagnation and impoverishment, tyranny, and political oppression. The “equality” that Bernie supporters are looking for does not exist in socialist societies.

In such socialist societies the political class are the elites who climb the ladder of success based on political favoritism and corruption, not based on abilities, talent, merit and risk. The political class are the rulers and the rest of the people are their servants, quite frankly.

No “equality” there.

So Bernie is running on a platform to “tax the billionaires” to pay for all the socialist programs he wants to impose.

But Bernie has also said he wants to eliminate the billionaires (until there are no more billionaires to tax, and thus no more wealth to fund his schemes!).

The truth is, these politicians, demagogues, and propagandists such as Bernie are really for government power and control, and they oppose freedom, even though it was freedom that most contributed to the biggest expansion in growth and progress in human history and the biggest rise in the standard of living of all (and not just the “1%” or the “rich” or billionaires, but everyone).

More than guided by motivations of charity, giving and compassion, the Bernie socialists seem guided by envy and covetousness in their expressed desire to take other people’s money and stuff away from them. Sadly, earlier misguided Americans began the process for them by imposing the income tax and empowering the IRS.

And the truth is, socialism is anything but “social.” It is in fact anti-social. Socialism is antithetical to peace, and has no place for the peacefulness of voluntary exchange. Socialists impose policies of coercion, compulsion, and government theft of private wealth, government exploitation of your labor.

Many people agree with the policies of aggression against peaceful people, from the antifa demonstrators who beat up MAGA hat-wearing Trump supporters to the police state enforcing immigration and drug laws.

And Project Veritas showed that some Bernie supporters are threatening to burn down Milwaukee and other cities if Bernie doesn’t get the Democrat nomination.

But these people merely reflect the actual government policies they support. Socialism requires a heavy dose of State power and aggression over the people and a powerful police state, goons with badges and guns, to enforce the bureaucrats’ iron fist.

The differences between socialism and freedom?

Unlike in the private sector in which all transactions, trades and associations must be voluntary, and the use of coercion with threats of force are considered criminal, under socialism the transactions between government and the workers are involuntary. You must obey the government’s demands for whatever it wants, or else.

And the U.S. quickly became this kind of society after the income tax was imposed in the early 20th Century. Which is what enabled the aforementioned enrichment of the ruling class in Washington. (Hence Bernie’s three homes and $2 million in wealth. But what has he actually produced and served consumers with in return? Nothing, quite frankly.)

And it is not just the “rich” who are robbed by the government, it is everyone. Either through direct taxation or indirectly via inflation and a central bank such as the Federal Reserve System.

So we have to decide whether we want to live in a free society, a society of peace and prosperity, or not.

The socialist society, or in the U.S. the “mixed economy” as it is sometimes called, requires the violation of the people’s freedom.

What exactly is freedom, as compared to the enslavement of the government-owned and controlled economy under socialism?

In freedom, you own your life and your body. Not the government. You own your labor and all the energy and effort you put into your productivity, until you voluntarily sell your labor to an employer, a client or customer. And you thus own the earnings or compensation that are paid to you voluntarily by such employers, clients or customers, which are based on mutually agreed-to voluntary contracts.

In the modern era, more freedom has led to the periods of the greatest growth and expansion, and raised the standard of living of all in society. Socialism and less freedom have a history of reducing the standard of living of the people.

For example, we still have generally a lot of freedom in the tech sector now, unlike the healthcare and some other sectors. The reason you have a very modern and convenient iPhone and other little gadgets is because of that freedom.

All the advances and inventions of modern tech, as well as inventions in other areas, came from that freedom and free markets. They did not come from socialism.

What inventions, exactly, came from the socialist Soviet Union? From Cuba, North Korea, or Iran?

And healthcare in the U.S., for example, right now is not nearly as free and affordable as it used to be.

What happened? The government came in during the 1960s and imposed Medicare and Medicaid. Those interventions, mandates and intrusions distorted the markets in healthcare and caused havoc, which led to the increase in costs in healthcare. Prior to those intrusions, if someone was unable to afford to go to a doctor or hospital, it was affordable for doctors to provide medical care for people for free, which many did.

There was much more freedom of healthcare in general in the old days, as well. Doctor-patient confidentiality was also more secure. Governmental intrusions have compromised that, too.

Another example of the destruction of socialism is Venezuela, which Bernie enthusiastically praises. In Venezuela the government seized the ownership of the means of production of food. Food production and distribution are under the ownership and control of the government. And what happened? The government distortions in those markets gave the Venezuelan people empty store shelves, long lines, mass starvation, violence, corruption, and death.

In contrast, look at all the store shelves in grocery stores in the U.S. Fully stocked, most of the time, with many, many choices, all as a result of private ownership of food production and distribution, and the freedom of the people running those industries to do what they think is right at whatever given time, not based on what a bureaucrat demands.

In socialism the government owns the means of production. And what is the most important means of production? The people, of course.

In socialist societies you do not own your own life and your labor’s earnings. The government is the initial, primary owner of your labor and the government gives to you whatever it thinks you deserve.

Meanwhile, when there’s more freedom, especially the freedom to keep more of what you earn, businesses expand more and the workers are getting better pay and benefits so they can afford that car, a new refrigerator, etc. A recent example: the tax cuts of December, 2017 in the U.S. that were followed by companies immediately announcing their workers’ raises and bonuses.

In a genuinely free society the companies are privately owned and the capital of the private manufacturers and investors is free from government theft. This leaves the people free to invest in and expand their businesses to produce better goods and services to better serve the consumers.

Freedom is one big reason why people in the society can afford to have an iPhone, a TV, a car, and air conditioning.

In contrast, when the State owns and runs production and industry, which is what Bernie Sanders wants (like in modern Cuba and the old Soviet Union), government bureaucrats decide what you will do with your life and career (tracking kids from kindergarten to college, etc.). That is because in such societies you have no freedom and your right to self-ownership is usurped away by the rulers, i.e. a slave of the State.

And in such socialist societies there is no political freedom including the right to “question authority” and challenge the State’s abuses. Given that the U.S. is very socialist in the kinds of powers and controls the federal government already has, it’s no wonder the regime in Washington railroads anyone who rocks the establishment boat, from Donald Trump to political prisoners Edward Snowden, Chelsea Manning and Julian Assange.

In socialist societies that Amerika had become long ago but many people aren’t willing or able to acknowledge, you can see how political power over others and the political process is an obsession. Look how members of the political class are climbing and grasping for power with the current 2020 elections.

The two major parties, Republican and Democrat, a.k.a. Republicrat and Demopublican, are really a racket. They are really a branch of the government, federal, state and local. Just look how those two parties have legally restricted the right of third parties or independent candidates to get their names on ballots. And the media, by the way, are another branch of the government, as their propaganda mainly repeats the government’s word without question.

Anti-establishment media people are “heretics,” “unpatriotic,” “Russia puppets,” and censored by mainstream media, or “de-platformed” by the government’s social media minions.

And, while Donald Trump in many ways is also an authoritarian socialist, just see how the apparatchiks and propagandists of the permanent extra-constitutional national security state and bureaucratic state went after him, just because he said, “Drain the Swamp.” Just look how the State’s criminals of government made things up, like “golden showers” and concocted a Steele Dossier to falsely accuse and frame-up a duly elected U.S. president. And when that didn’t work, they then made up more “crimes” from a mere phone call toward an impeachment, and that didn’t work either.

And with the pathological political class the Republicans are just as bad as the “strategizing” Democrats. Some of the conservative talk radio hosts and their ditto-head callers are saying they will vote in Democrat primaries for Bernie. But how did Rush Limbaugh’s “Operation Chaos” work out? (It gave us Obama!)

You see, this is how things are when everything in life is politicized in a socialist society.

The conservatives, by the way, love socialism when it comes to the immigration issue. They love the idea of the central planners in Washington attempting to control the movements of millions of people, which is impossible.

The Rush Limbaugh crowd loves having the government restrict the rights and freedom of foreigners entering “our” country, entering the socialized and “publicly-owned” territory of Amerika and imposing a police state on everyone at or near the border.

In that kind of socialism that conservatives love, you have to get the government’s permission to get a job somewhere or to hire someone.

In contrast, in a free society people come and go as they please, they go to where a job is available and they buy or rent a home where they want to live, and employers just hire the best person for the job. No permission from a parasite bureaucrat in Washington needed.

In a free society, you do what you want to do with your own life, your labor and property, as long as you are peaceful and don’t violate the persons or property of others. Not complicated.

And in a free society, there is no government “war on drugs.” You own your own body and consume whatever you decide, and you’re responsible for your own decisions and actions. But when life is socialized, the government is empowered to own and control everything, including you.

Currently in Amerika, the government owns your body and bureaucrats decide what you may or may not put into “your” body.

In a free society, if you want to use, buy or sell a plastic bag, then you use, buy or sell a plastic bag. As long as you don’t litter. People littering is the real problem as far as environmental issues are concerned, not plastics per se.

In a free society no one may go to government bureaucrats to ban plastic, or ban anything for that matter. No banning drugs by law, no banning sugary drinks or salt, no banning guns, no bans on otherwise peaceful activities.

So a free society is a “leave people the hell alone” society. Whether the Bernie, Bloomberg or Trump socialists and fascists like it or not!

And in a free society, you educate your children however you want. And when there is freedom, there would be many more schools and choices, and the government doesn’t run the schools. No federal Department of Education, no local school committees. And it’s all voluntary. No compulsory education.

In a free society, if your child wants to have a lemonade stand, she has a lemonade stand. Nothing a local official or neighbor can do about it, as long as it’s on your own private property. If you want to drive a cab and offer people rides, you put “TAXI” on top and drive your cab and offer people rides. You don’t get a bureaucrat’s permission. You don’t pay the government a fee. You just do it.

And in a free society there is freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of movement, freedom of self-defense, and due process.

Sadly, there is no room for any of those things in a socialist society.

Two Cults of the Modern Dark Ages: Climate Change and Transgender

This week included a major school “strike” for the climate fanatics, in which school students skipped their classes to attend events all over the country. The young people are experiencing anxiety and depression now because of being terrorized by their elder climate fanatics such as Alexandira Ocasio-Cortez, who say that we only have 12 years before we’re all dead from climate change.

“The world is going to end in 12 years.” No it’s not, you morons. People have been saying these things, from “The Coming Ice Age” to Global Warming to “Climate Change,” for decades and decades.

But the truth is that the main goal of the fanatics is the expansion of government, the further centralization of government power, the further empowering of government to steal more from their neighbors via government-imposed redistributionism, and based on envy and covetousness, and that’s really it, people.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her fellow brainwashed dupes were themselves kids during the mid-2000s when Al Gore was warning people with his climate alarmism that included “An Inconvenient Truth” that was shown in classrooms throughout America. He and his cohorts should be charged with terrorism, and child abuse as well.

And Al Gore and his fellow Climate Crusaders are so concerned about the environment that they fly around in planes going from conference to conference, polluting the air from city to city to city. By the way, after being shamed into adding “green upgrades” to his 10,000+ square-foot home, the Gore home’s “footprint” is worse now than it was before he added the “green upgrades”!

Many people now are brainwashed to believe the climate change ideology, and they really are genuinely a cult of fanatics. They are religious crusaders who want to censor or call for the jailing of those who bring up inconvenient facts that refute the fanatics’ claims and repeated propaganda, not just jail for the “deniers” but death as well.

On Meet the Press, Chuck Toady had a one-hour special discussing the “Climate Change Crisis,” but didn’t invite anyone with an opposing point of view. Why, we needn’t even bother with the “deniers,” so what’s the point of including them? We know the truth already. Right, Toady?

And there are those who say that, well 97% of climate scientists agree with the Climate Change ideology (which isn’t true, by the way), and all the news outlets tell us about “Climate Change” and so it must be true. Well, a lot of people (like, maybe a billion or more?) believe in the Bible and Biblical scriptures, but does that mean the Biblical scriptures are really true?

The mass media repeat things over and over and over, so it must be true. Like, “Trump-Russia collusions,” and other things as Paul Craig Roberts pointed out, including 9/11, bin Laden, Saddam’s “weapons of mass destruction,” and so on. No, just because millions and millions of people believe something and the mass media and government bureaucrats repeat it over and over, that means nothing, and it doesn’t mean the propaganda is true. It does mean that a lot of people are gullible and easily manipulable. And it is getting worse today as government-controlled education stomps out the kids’ critical thinking skills and indoctrinates them with nonsense.

So, if you are someone who refuses to hear the opposing arguments and instead calls for censorship, calls for jailing or death to “deniers,” then yes you are a “crusader” and a part of a religious and fanatical “cult.”

One of the cult crusaders making her views known was this little 16-year-old climate groupie from Sweden, lecturing the rest of us. Lecturing the previous generations. She’s brainwashed. According to Wikipedia, she has an opera singer mother and an actor father. After she was first exposed to the Climate Change propaganda, “she became depressed and lethargic, stopped talking and eating, and was eventually diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) and selective mutism,” says Wikipedia. Besides training their little girl to be a manipulative whiner and a shrill demagogue looking toward the Oscars, I wonder what else her actor parents did to her, psychologically? The climate cult fanatics have given her Asperger syndrome, obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) and selective mutism, apparently. And shame on the greedy corporate green cronies who are exploiting this kid and her childhood as well.

Anyway, there are thousands of scientists who do not sign on to the fear-mongering propaganda. “Science is settled” means that it is settled by consensus. But there is never a legitimate consensus when scientific inquiry and testing and retesting of data are resisted. Actual science is important. And evidence is important, too. The “evidence” the cultists use to “prove” their points mainly consists of computer models that are often shown to be wrong.

Another example of a society-wide brainwashed cult is the transgender movement. Yes, it is a “cult,” in which the rational people are not allowed to refer to someone who is a biological male as “he” or “him” and are accused of “misgendering” when in actuality it is people who are calling an actual male “she” or “her” who are misgendering. It is a cult when the brainwashed ones call for jailing people who “misgender” others (i.e. referring to someone with the correct gender pronoun).

There are actually people who when they talk to someone or introduce themselves with their name they also add a quick “he/him” or “she/her” to make sure the other person knows for sure what their gender identity is. I’ve seen people who are clearly female, for example, putting “she/her” on their Facebook or Twit profile. Really? You’re definitely female, it’s obvious with your looks and your name, but you have to make sure that others are given more information so that they know for sure that you are female? (This isn’t a “cult”?)

The transgender cult now includes Republican governors of U.S. states, such as Massachusetts and New Hampshire (the “Live Free or Die” state), signing bills to outlaw “conversion therapy,” which doesn’t just include “electric shock therapy” but also includes merely helping someone deal with the insecurity of gender identity issues.

When government officials outlaw certain conversations between a doctor and patient, or between a psychologist and a client, yes, we are talking about a “cult” here.

And then there are the many parents now, especially in the U.K., who are brainwashed to believe that if their child shows interests or behaviors of the opposite sex that therefore the parent should encourage the child to BE the opposite sex, give the kid hormones and eventually surgically mutilate the child to “become” the opposite sex. And we’re talking about parents starting their gender-confused kids in such a process at the age of 4 or 5! Those parents and the “doctors” who go along with these rituals of psychosis really ought to be charged with child abuse. They are ruining their children’s lives and their futures, certainly much more than “climate change” ever could. And the transgender cultists are becoming CPS nazis as well in the U.K., stealing kids from parents who refuse to comply with the transgender religious cult.

The truth is, that we’re not allowed by law in Massachusetts and New Hampshire (the “Live Free or Die” state) to say, the truth is most kids who experience an interest in being the opposite sex are merely going through a phase and will probably grow out of it at some point, says a Johns Hopkins psychiatrist. Someone who is or thinks he is “transgender” most likely has unresolved emotional issues from one’s childhood, issues that need to be resolved (which is now illegal in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, the “Live Free or Die” state — have I mentioned that?).

But the fanatical rage of what’s “in” these days, like the transgender movement, has taken over rationality just like “climate change” and other issues of panic and hysteria that also includes the hysterical anti-Iran propaganda and the anti-immigration movement.

Like Trump, Alexandria Obama-Chavez Against Economic Freedom

Thomas DiLorenzo says that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez embraces the Nazi Party platform of 1920. He writes,

Mike Rozeff reports that the clueless communist congresswoman from New York, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has decided that her latest attack on economic freedom would be an attack on Total Wine and Spirits, a great store that sells every kind of alcoholic beverage (and food as well) much cheaper than your typical mom-and-pop state-regulated cartel liquor store.  After costing her district thousands of good-paying jobs with Amazon by scaring them away with threats of tax and regulatory harassment, she now opposes the opening up of Total Wine in her district, costing it even more jobs and protecting the local government-regulated-and-controlled liquor cartel.

Her hatred of large retailers is nearly identical to one of the 25 planks of the Nazi Party Platform of 1920, officially called the “Platform of the National Socialist German Workers Party.”  Plank #16 of the Nazi “platform” said:  “We demand . . . the immediate communalization [i.e., government takeover] of the large department stores, which are to be leased at low rates to small tradesmen.”  The general theme of the Nazi Platform, stated near the end, is that “we fight against the Jewish materialistic spirit,” i.e., capitalism.  To the Nazis the Jews were symbols of German capitalism which, as good socialists, they wanted to destroy (and they did by nationalizing all heavy industry and de facto nationalizing all the rest with totalitarian regulations, controls, and mandates).

At least we now know where Ocasio-Cortez’s wealthy Silicon Valley financiers and puppet masters are getting some of their ideas.  One wonders what her Jewish New York constituents think of this.

Immigration, Welfare, and the Nincompoop Republicans

What a week. With the snowstorm and now the deep freeze, and then an Internet outage (it’s back), and everything else that’s going on. And all these annoying things in the news. There’s that new Congresswoman from Minnesota who has sparked a hysterical “We Condemn Anti-Semitism and Hate Language” bill in Congress, and Nancy Pelosi has to scold her. But the former head of Greenpeace has called another new Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez a “pompous little twit” and criticized her “Green New Deal” as “eco-fascist.” Good.

Anyway, speaking of Ocasio-Cortez, in my post on the socialism of both Ocasio-Cortez and Trump vs. freedom, I mentioned some of the causes of the immigration problem at the southern border. One thing I didn’t mention is that the U.S. has a welfare state, a huge system of welfare handouts that includes Social Security and Medicare. This welfare state is unfortunately one aspect of America that attracts the “undesirables.”

There shouldn’t be handouts to immigrants (or to anyone, quite frankly) that are redistributed from money or earnings stolen from others. The whole system of forcibly taking something from others to give to the “needy,” the elderly, or anyone whose contributors did not give the loot voluntarily, is an immoral system. That is because the ends can’t morally justify the means of taking by force, by coercion, involuntarily. That’s just theft.

But why do conservatives continue to accept this immoral system? I listen to these hypocrites on the radio, the talk radio ditto-heads, and they say nothing about this immoral system of theft and plunder.

Therefore the conservatives love welfare and wealth redistributionism. They love the income tax, Social Security, and Medicare and Medicaid. I know they love it all, because they never say a thing about it or how immoral, dishonest and criminal it is.

Conservatives and Republicans caved when Democrat Wilson pushed the income tax-theft-enslavement on the people. They caved when FDR pushed the socialist/fascist New Deal, and they caved when LBJ pushed the “Great Society,” that turned out to not be so great. (And see Jacob Hornberger’s recent post on the idolization of Nazism.)

And see Laurence Vance on what the Republicans could have done when they had majorities, the Republicans making America socialist again, and, Who are the efficiency experts for the welfare state? Republicans and conservatives.

If Republicans and conservatives are worried about “illegal” immigrants coming into the U.S. and getting on welfare, they have had their chance again and again and again to pass bills to prevent immigrants from receiving welfare. But they dare not do that, because they are devoted welfare statists. (And as I wrote in my earlier post, ending the drug war will solve much of the immigration problem, the gangs and the violence. But dumb Republicans love the drug war and worship the police state.)

Republicans and conservatives are not serious about the immigration problem. They are not serious in their criticism of “socialism,” because they ARE socialists! And Donald Trump isn’t serious, either, in my view. Their neanderthal authoritarianism drives their conservatard mentality, as well as their strong belief in the welfare state and the empowerment of the centralized bureaucracy in Washington.

The Control Freaks Want to Complete the Total Ruination of Amerika

We’re getting it from all over now. From the activists, the socialists, the fascists, the drug-addicted and the boozers, and the general statist control freaks who love their enmeshment with government powers.

First, Constitutional law professor Jonathan Turley says that a Louisiana woman was arrested for posting online a video of a fight between two boys at her son’s school. She was not there to see the fight but found the video on her son’s cell phone. She was charged with…with…I can’t even remember now, some stupid thing, charged by some stupid government police bureaucrats.

Of course people have a right to post a video of a school fight. In fact, as the actual law (that Turley quoted from) shows, there are exceptions to the prohibition including the video being used as a “public service.” In my view, the woman is providing the public with actual video of a school fight, especially when both students in the fight were charged by police.

Turley describes the law as a “poorly conceived law that criminalizes the ‘Unlawful posting of criminal activity for notoriety and publicity’,” and was first introduced by Democrat state Rep. Barbara Norton (obviously a relative of Ed Norton from the Honeymooners), and signed into law by then-Gov. Bobby Jindal, the fast-talking politician who ran for President in 2016, but dropped out of the race in 2015. (Does he look like Yoda?)

Now, the answer to these problems occurring at public schools is to abolish public schools, a.k.a. government schools. And regarding posting videos of a fight or other incidents happening on the promises of public property, of course that would be in the public interest, and in the public domain.

The response to someone posting something online that meddling statists don’t like is to prohibit such an act, by law. That is what dictators like to do. They like to give orders and boss people around. For instance, another example is Carl Tuckerson who wants to ban kids from having Smartphones, by law, by federal law as well. Not let parents decide whether or not they think their kids should have a Smartphone, no. The Nanny State should decide for us.

According to the Blaze, Tuckerson compares that to the age restrictions to buy cigarettes, because phone addiction is harmful to one’s health. Tuckerson stated, “Smartphone use makes your kids sadder, slower, and more isolated, and over time, can kill them.” Yeah, but so can watching Fox News, Carl.

“There’s no reason why the Congress, which made smartphones possible in the first place, shouldn’t be part of the solution,” he continued.

What? Congress made Smartphones possible? Are you serious? That sounds like the typical mindset of someone who worships our Washington overlords. Here is the history of the Smartphone. I see nothing in there about “Congress” or anything government! What are you, Al Gore?

Government shouldn’t have the power to ban anything! Not Smartphones or football for kids, or cigarettes or booze for that matter. Let parents decide. And government shouldn’t be banning anything by law, not drugs, booze, phones, or guns. These people are real meddlers when you get right down to it.

And there’s someone in Washington now who wants to do some serious banning, prohibiting, forbidding, restricting, punishing, meddling, intruding, interfering, dictating, ordering, controlling, and all-around messing things up, that being Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who Roseanne Barr is now calling a “Farrakhan-loving bug-eyed b*tch.” (Is she related to Bill Barr? What about Bob Barr?)

Ocasio-Cortez wants to ban cars and trucks, and apparently go back to horse and buggy, and she wants to ban airplanes, and cows. And apparently she wants to have some kind of “public bank or system of regional and specialized public banks, public venture funds” to pay for the Greed New Deal Green Wheel-Deal those Washington communists are foaming at the mouth about. So they’ll just give everybody phony Monopoly money to play with, that’s worth nothing, and they will just move the whole society further into total impoverishment more quickly, that’s all.

And this is all in the name of not environmentalism but Social Justice i.e. control. Ocasio-Cortez has been joined by many of her fellow crazies in Congress including Presidential candidates Elizabeth Warren and Kamoolah Harris. And Bernie Goetz Bernie Sanders if I’m not mistaken. These people in Washington are really nuts, not just ignorant and low-IQ.
